A Month in America

This month l returned to the states
To spend the time with my family in Florida

and Rhode Island.

Along the way I experienced the love, the care,

and also the stress in this moment in our country.
People in America are pissed,
And with good reason.
But this stressful climate also takes a toll on our physical health,
our energy, and our capacity for compassion.
To stay healthy amidst the stress,
I turned to my daily practices of yoga, qi gong, martial arts and meditation,
(turn your sound on to hear my band from back in New Orleans!)
These holistic practices helped me release stuck energies and emotions.
strengthen in my values and capabilities,
and more or less feel good every day.

In my own journey, I often draw inspiration from the world of sports .

Every athlete expects to face challenges and adversity
in their pursuit of excellence.
And nobody wins every time.
But the greatest do everything they can
to train their bodies, hearts, and minds,
to rise and meet the challenges.

For those of us on a path of peace,
this often means working through the darkness and aggression,
and returning again and again,
to the principles of Love, Wisdom, and Joy.

My family has lived through times of war, discrimination, and economic uncertainty,
and they have persevered.

Their action and integrity created the opportunity for a better life for us.
Now we have the chance,
To carry it forward for the next generation.

Before leaving Florida, I spent some time camping to integrate
and connect with nature.

There's an African proverb that I love.
"If we want to go somewhere fast, it's best to go alone.
But if the road ahead is long and far,
We'll need to get there together."
Happy Traveling Friends!

Introduction to Kalaripayattu:
The Mother of Martial Arts
with Shivv Nath

Kalaripayattu dates back thousands of years to Southern India. In the 5th or 6th century, It's most famous student, Bodhi Dharma, traveled from southern India to China, where he brought Zen and his training in Kalaripayattu to the first Shaolin temple, where it would grow and evolve into what we now know as Kung Fu.
Kalaripayattu carries much of the philosophy and principles of yoga,
and helps the practitioner cultivate and purify their mind, body, and energy.
Shivv Nath is a Yogi and an initiated teacher of Kalariyapattu.
He instructs students of all levels and ability,
and is offering this introductory class especially for our us.,
No experience necessary.
